CHILD WELFARE SOUTH AFRICA WILL NOT BE CLOSING ITS DOORS DESPITE FINANCIAL CHALLENGES
South Africa, 24 April 2017 – Several of our partners and member organisations have expressed deep concerns over the recent media publications which portrayed Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) in a negative light. Similar to the situation of most NGOs in the country, CWSA is experiencing challenges which are related to finances and this has impacted on the staff as well as its operations. The National Board and the Management of CWSA, however, wish to assure the public that the organisation is working tirelessly to address the situation and the impacts. As one of the oldest and largest organisations of its kind in the country, we know the tremendous responsibility we have towards Child Protection and the many other important services that we provide. We will continue to uphold our call to duty towards our member organisations who render services daily to children, as well as advocate for the rights and the protection of children in our country. The National Board of CWSA has put in place, measures to address the current challenges which include the following:
- Setting up a committee to review the challenges and make recommendations on the way forward
- Strong focus on income development
- Focus on rebuilding the trust and favourable working relationships with our various partners.
CWSA’s Management will continue to work hard to ensure that the organisation, staff and our member organisations continue to provide the required services to the communities and the children in need.
